Founded in 1970, the Institute of Accountancy Training (IAT) stands as a premier institution dedicated to advancing public sector administration and financial management in Ghana. Established to address the training needs of civil and public service staff, particularly those in the Controller and Accountant General’s Department and the Auditor General’s Department, IAT was the nation’s sole provider of public sector financial management training at its inception.
Operating under the auspices of the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning (MoFEP), Ghana Audit Service, and Controller and Accountant General Department, IAT was entrusted with equipping government employees with specialized knowledge and skills in accounting and financial management.
In 1975, IAT expanded its offerings with the introduction of the Diploma in Public Service Accounting, complementing its tailored refresher courses and specialized programs. This diploma, renowned for its alignment with industry standards, attracted not only public sector employees but also professionals from the private sector seeking high-quality financial management training.
Additionally, IAT established a strategic partnership with the UK-based Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountability (CIPFA). Through this collaboration, the Institute provided advanced professional training to graduates aspiring to excel in CIPFA’s professional examinations.
Today, IAT continues to uphold its legacy of excellence, shaping skilled financial professionals who drive innovation and integrity in both public and private sectors.
