Our Journey

About Our Institution

The institute of Accountancy Training (IAT) was established in 1970 to provide in-service training in public sector administration and financial management for the staff of the civil and public services (especially the staff of the Controller and Accountant General’s Department and Auditor General’s Department) At the time of its establishment, it was the sole provider of public sector financial management training in the country.

The Institute was established under the auspices of the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning (MoFEP), Ghana Audit Service and Controller and Accountant General Department to train government employees to acquire knowledge and skills in accounting and financial management .

The institute in 1975 commenced to run a Diploma in Public Service Accounting, concurrently with refresher and tailored programmes. The diploma programme was highly rated which met industry standards hence attracting employees from the private sector.

The institute also entered a cooperation arrangement with the British Professional accountancy body, Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountability (CIPFA). Professional training was given to graduates by the Institute who intended to write the professional examination of CIPFA
